Our Next Program:  Planning for 2009-2010

Last Week's News:

     Guests and Happenings:

         ~ Visiting Rotarians:  None

~ Guests:  Gordon Moore, representing the Kittery Lion's Club

~ News - Both Russ and Obie are at Camp P.O.S.T.C.A.R.D. this week as counselors

      Meeting Program:  .

P/E Julie announced her Board for next year and presented the committee assignments.

Dee, Pam, Allen,Dave, and Pat will be the Directors-At-large.

President-Elect Julie filled in for the vacationing President Sue. Gordy had joined

us to hear about the "Every Fifteen Minutes program. He gave us some background on

all the things that the Lions Club was doing internationally and locally and made a pitch

for collecting old glasses, which they catalogue and send overseas. DGE Jeff told how

this was a vital component of Literacy and that he has asked his incoming Literacy chair to

contact the Lion's Clubs in the area to partner with them in their program

DGE Jeff then described the "Every Fifteen Minutes" program which Obie had brought

before the Board last week. The program provides a strong message about teenage

drinking and driving. Larry added his perspective that the program was very effective, it was

done in Kittery about six years ago (www.everyfifteenminutes.com) and the proposal is to put

it on in the spring before Prom season. The project would involve partnering with the school,

firemen, policemen, and other local organizations and applying for a District Grant to pay

for shirts, food, and the overnight stay for the students. The club agreed to fund $500 with

the program and approved proceeding with the planning. Gordy will get back to us with word

on the Lion's Club participation. Dee said the we can expect participation and financial

commitment from York Hospice.  We need to finalize who the key people are for the club

and who the partners are and what level of commitment they can make in order to get a

District Simplified Grant request in, we want to have that in before the end of June

Dave described the Falmouth Rotary's Afghan Girl School project and what they have

achieved to date. Brad proposed the Club take $1000 out of savings and use it to support

their need to raise $10,000 by June 30th. The Club voted approval and a check will be sent

       today.

P/E Julie introduced the proposed budget for 2009-2010. Dave described some of the

changes. Ellen recommended dropping the $100 for Christmas entertainment and with that

        change the budget was approved.

The Club has received a $1500 donation from Kittery Estates to be used on local projects.

A very big thank you to Kittery Estates and Greg and Susie R. for the donation.

      50-50 Raffle

(50% of the pot goes for club administration and 50% goes to the lucky individual if their

raffle ticket is chosen and they select the one joker hidden in the ever-decreasing deck of

cards. If the joker is not drawn then the pot rolls over to the next week).
