Next Meeting: Student of the Month, Meeting at the R.W. Traip Cafeteria, Members cost $5. Members cost pays for food and beverage service for members and  non-student guests.

Meeting: February 20th was our club business meeting for the month. President Pam reported the the District Peace Concert was a success, several club members attended, with over 500 in the audience at the Noble High School Auditorium. Over $13,000 was raised to support the newest Rotary Peace Center in Istanbul

Pam raised the need for an additional Fund Raiser this year and mentioned a few ideas she had seen She asked for volunteers for a fundraiser committee to explore suggestions: Pauli, Sue, Pam and Larry (I may have missed some) volunteered.

Sue talked about the idea of sponsoring a Mental Health program with the Sweetser organization. They can run either an online program or a 6 hour in-person program. Sue felt that learning more about recognizing issues in young people was a critical place to start. The schools are working with Sweetser at this time, but there is thought that working through the schools to find interested adults (like parents) had some potential. Sue will discuss these ideas with Eric,  and Blayne who were unavailable today.

Pam reported that a recommendation had been made to make the cost of being a “Friend of Kittery Rotary” be free. After a brief discussion the idea was accepted, as proposed, there was no cost to the club.

Andy discussed the financial statements provided. The club members present by majority vote, decided to bring the gift/honorarium practice in line with the majority of the District. The scholarship funding was discussed with a single significant award being favored at the moment, but the final recommendations will depend on discussions of the scholarship committee (Eric, Pam, Marie, and Jeanine (any omission is not intentional).)

Andy and Pam noted that Nellie Young is in Peru and has been posting pictures daily since she arrived. Andy has forwarded a picture of Nellie when she addressed the York Rotary Club on her service project, the confidence she shows is very impressive.

The Kittery Rotary Afterhours club has invited us to join them for their 5th Thursday Social February 29th at the Tributary (4:45 pm). Please let them know if you are coming so they have a food count, attendees are asked to bring canned goods for food donation.
