Last Week's News:
Guests and Happenings:
~ Visiting Rotarians: None
~ Guests: Our guest speaker Dr. Charlie Lyons from York County
Community College
News: ~ Russ announced that Obie will be joining him as a counselor
at Camp P.O.S.T.C.A.R.D. this year. The website for information
on the camp is in last week's newsletter .
Russ also announced that on March 15th there will be a benefit
spaghetti dinner at Kittery Estates for $5 for the Police Benevolent
Association. Tickets are available in the Kittery Estates office.
Pat reported on her experiance at the Rotary Leadership Institute,
and stressed that despite the implcations in their background
information for the Institute, it is really designed to provide all
Rotarians a better understanding of Rotary; it helped "connect
the dots"
Julie announced that this is the last day for "Early Registration" for
District Conferance in June to be in the drawing for a free one
night stay..
Dave reminded everyone that March was our spring campaign month for
donations to the Rotary Foundation. The Club has funds
for matching contributions still available,
Meeting Program: .
Acting President Julie announced that the meeting April 21st
will be at the District Assembly. This will be Jeff's District Assembly and
a large club turnout of support is hoped for.
The District Assembly is the roll-out for the new RI President's and
the new District Governor's year. Besides the introduction of the theme
and goals for the year there are programs providing information on critical
concerns and Rotary activity. The District Governor's club traditionally provides
support.

Dr. Charles Lyons of the York County Community College
Our guest speaker was Dr Lyons the President of the York County
Community College (YCCC). (www.yccc.edu.) Dr. Lyons reported on the
rapidly increasing enrollment over the last three years, driven by the cost
of higher education elsewhere, and by the realization that higher education
was no longer a luxury, but a necessity.
Interest in the college has increased also because even relatively
secure families are finding that it is increasingly difficult to raise the funds to
pay for live-away schooling as home values and savings dwindle. Funding for
expansion of the College facilities is expected to be included in votes on
upcoming Maine State bond issues.

Dr. Lyons signing a speaker's book to be donated in his honor
to the Kittery Schools
York County Community College is the site of many District 7780 events
and is located about 20 minutes up Route 95.
