The Rotary Students of the Month for April are Seventh Grader Jaxson Amaral-Usle for Shapleigh School, introduced by Teacher Nick LaPierre; and Senior Colby Christiansen for R.W.Traip Academy, presented by Teacher Michelle Hayward.
Jaxson Amaral-Usle and his mother moved to Kittery in the middle of 5th Grade. Jaxson's teacher's noted he was quiet at first, but quickly settled in. He was and is noted for speaking up and challenging things he feels could be changed. He thinks through problems, is noted for his ability to see patterns, and for his mischievous humor. Jaxson is hard working and adds depth to the Shapleigh Community. He is noted by faculty and peers as helpful and kind.
Colby Christiansen is the Traip Academy Student of the Month. Colby was presented by Math Teacher Michelle Hayward. Teacher Hayward noted that Colby is an excellent student and has been during his career a Traip, Ms. Hayward feels he could have been a Student of the Month for all his years at the school. Colby's future plans resolve around art, and his capstone senior project involves working in sea glass for which he found a mentor in an artist from Kennebunkport. Colby was part of the group of seniors which made the recent trip to Normandy which he described as a very transformative experience.
Jaxson and Colby both received certificates from the Rotary Club and their school as Students of the Month. They were presented a Rotary 4-Way Challenge medallion by Club member and School Superintendent Eric Waddell. Their names will go on the plaques displayed in their schools, and they signed a book to be donated in their names to the school libraries.
