Our guest Speaker at our December 5th Club meeting, was Nicole Rutherford from the Maine Chapter of Make a Wish. Nicole talked about the focus of Make A Wish and what they have achieved, including some stories of the impact the program has made
Nicole talked about the focus of the program , which works with children 2 1/2 years old up to 18 years old. The children are critically ill and the aim is to bring some jopy to the children and their families, and to give them something positive that may also give them hope . About 70 % of the children they have worked with in Maine have lived. The goal is to try to give them whatever brings them happiness.
The organization in Maine is able to grant about 75 wishes a year, and normally has about 110 wishes they are working with. So far the organization has been able to grant 1800 wishes. headquartered in Scarborough, they have 8 staff and over 200 volunteers.
