District Governor Marion Cheney was our very special guest speaker this morning. This was DG Marion’s Official Club visit where she presented her focus and the focus of Rotary International President R. Gordon R. McInally for the 2023-2024 Rotary Year.
DG Marion spoke of her early (off-putting) contact with Rotary, and the subsequent very different and engaging contact that put her on the road to Rotary leadership.
Now, in the buildup to her year as District 7780 Governor Marion, spoke of how, at a Rotary gathering of incoming Governors, RI President talked of the personal experiences which led him to make mental health a leading focus of the current and subsequent Rotary years. Marion related how this has resonated with her own personal experience and has become a commitment of the future District 7780 Governors. She reviewed some of the data on the extent that mental health touches everyone, and of how the recent tragedy in Maine was a prime example. DG Marion also talked about the new Mideast Rotary Peace Center, a Foundation Matching Gift initiative, and the impact made possible by one District generous donor.
