The Rotary Club of
Kittery, Maine

Chartered 1987

Date  July 16, 2024 Vol. 17, Issue 3
Next Meeting:Sue: Tapping

Guests: Remick Matty, Akshay Kulkarni

Club co-president Brad led the meeting. We met in Room 2 at the Kittery Community Center due to other activities schedule at the Center. Our meeting was more informal than usual as we did not have convenient access to the storage closet.

The scheduled event was classification talks by Shea and Brad, and also a chance to meet Akshay and chat with both he and Remick about their exchange experiences

This was also the day we would deliver the Salad dressings for Footprints Food Pantry, we did have some last minute donations to add to those already in Andy's truck.

Shea led off with her classification talk. Shea is classified as a horticulturist, which based upon her talk, seems spot on. Shea had many entertaining stories of her experiences taking care of gardens in the area (and experiences with their owners) and although she is now retired, Shea is still involved in the historical gardens in the area  (she talked of those at Fort McClary)~as well as their own ~ which have suffered a setback while they were off with their new camper. It appears Brad has someone to trade motorcycle stories with, a least at one time, Shea and Bob have had four on hand.

For the benefit of newer members and as an update, Brad also gave a talk of his history,, from the early college days of both he and his wife Linda (also a pastor and past club member and Club President). How they ended up, first in York, and now living in Kittery, how he got into umpiring little league, his mountain treks, and motorcycle journeys. This is Brad's second round as a club president and our past "scrap books" document his motorcycle journeys down south and out west, and Linda and Brad's hiking  trek on the trails of Scotland.
Our two current Short Term Youth Exchange young people, Blayne's son Remick Matty and his counterpart from India, Akshay Kilkarni had just returned from the trip in New York (see Stories) and shared with us some of their experiences. Both of Akshay's parents are members of the Rotary Club of Nasik. India. The boys chuckled over Akshay's first experience with a European sandwich on the way over 'Where's the spices?". As expected, Akshay was quickly introduced to the 'cool" waters around Maine. Bayne had posted pictures of some of their activities in the US that are includedbelow.

After the meeting we went over to FootPrints Food Pantry and delivered Salad Dressings: A total of 214 bottles of salad dressings and 60 single servings of salad dressing. many thanks to all who supported both within and from outside the club.
Led once again by the "Queen Bee", now past President, and current Assistant District Governor Pam!

Behind this display is a truck loaded with sorted Salad dressings ready for the shelf!

Last Thursday we had four Club members supporting the Table of Plenty. Shea, Bob (Gray), Pam and Andy, helped prep, clean up and distribute dinners or the evening.
