President -Elect Russ congratulated Kelcie, Josh, their parents and teachers and then
surprised them by giving them the floor by themselves to answer questions by the Club
members. As seen in the picture on the above right, they were both more then up to the
task. Our congratulations to both of them and we are sure we will be seeing more of them.
When hit with the standard "What do you think you want to be after school?" Kelcie snapped
back quickly with a perky smile -"A chemical engineer" which was met with a chorus of
"Go for i!!"
Our major support project for this quarter is the Kittery Holiday Baskets, who this year
are helping over 129 families including about 175 children. The club has donated over
$1600 in clothing, gifts and food this quarter. The last couple of days have been time for
collecting, sorting and packing up gifts and food for the Christmas distribution which takes
place today, Tuesday the 22nd
Contributed toys and clothes need to be sorted to find sizes and age appropriate items for
each child. In some cases where matches cannot be found a team of buyers uses donated funds
to provide a basic set of new clothes and toys for each child. After all the sorting, the gifts need
to be bagged and tagged and moved out to make way for sorting and boxing the food.

On the last day fresh food is purchased (several thousand dollars worth) and distributed.
Each box is numbered and has the number of children and adults and any special needs.
A couple of families live in places without ovens and can use only foods which can be
prepared on a hotplate, others are diabetic. Food is provided in proportion to the size and
ages (chidren vice adults) of each family.
50-50 Raffle
(50% of the pot goes for club administration and 50% goes to the lucky individual if their
raffle ticket is chosen and they select the one joker hidden in the ever-decreasing deck of
cards. If the joker is not drawn then the pot rolls over to the next week).
Susie Rydza won the raffle but was busy with her guests so
Greg drew the card for her, picking the 6 of diamonds and lost $91!
