Guests and Happenings:
~ Visiting Rotarians: Lori Moresco, Rotary Club of Lexington, MA
~ Guests: Guest Speaker Meredith Richardson, Troy Hendrickson (Kittery Key Bank
Branch Manager), Junior Kittery Rotarian Jackson Yeaton
~ News -
Lori Moresco is greatly credited for her persistance. Vacationing in York
she checked their website for local makeup opportunities and found Kittery still
listed as being at Robert's Maine Grill. She arrived at Robert's and found no one
there. She then tried the Lion's Club and found an AA meeting. She then tried
asking at a garage with no luck. She drove around until she saw our sign at Kittery
Estates. We applaud her hard effort, it was great having her as a guest, and we will
have to ask our neighboring clubs to update their websites.
We also enjoyed a "visit" from a Kittery Club member- our hard working and well
traveled District Governor, Jeff Pelkey, his "Official Club Visit' is not until October.
President Julie, recently back from a the northwest vacation, brought a banner
from a club she visited.
Julie announced that due to a conflict with our October Blood Drive our Celebrity
Waiter Dinner will probably be held in early November, Alan is checking on available
dates. Russ and Sue will be the event Chairs, members interested in being on the
committee please let them knw
The Falmouth Rotary Club is holding an Octoberfest event in Portland on October 11
and she suggested we might want to rent a table and sell something or have a display.
Pam announced that the District Membership Seminar is October 28th, 0730-1:30
in Portland Maine, all Club Members are encouraged to participate. There is a $30
registration fee paid for by the Club. Registration lists need to be in by October 16th.
Greg announced that the chef from Kittery Estates would provide the main dish at the
September 28th party at Frank & Ruth's, club members are asked to let them know what
each are bringing in the way of either appetizers, salads, or dessert (or wine). There is a sign
up sheet, please let him know next week if possible.
Dave announced that the District has awarded the Rotary Club of Kittery the full
District Simplified Grant amount we had requested for a spring EveryFifteen Minute program.
We are all clear now to begin planning and for the School to apply for the $500 EveryFifteen
Minute Grant. This project will involve a large number of other community groups and will have
an impact on all Traip Academy students and their families.
Meeting Program:
. Our speaker Merideth Richardson was introduced by President Julie. Meredith is a
lawyer who has become a Facilitator, Mediator, and Parenting Coordinator. Meredith talked
about hte various aspects of conflict resolution, starting with finding out what the real issues
are behind the problems on the table. She described the various types of disputing
personalities.
Mediation is beneficial in being much quicker and leaving far less wounds then judicated
judgements. The judicial process is overloaded, by nature gets both sides attacking each
other, and the parties are encourged not to admit any error since their admission can be used
against them.

Jackson, Pres Julie, and Alan listen as Meredith discribes
the benefits of mediated dispute resolution
Meredith gets involved (for example) with business or organization meeting facilitating,
parenting conflicts, disputes between businesses, neighbors, and communications between
couples wanting to stay together as well as those in the process of breaking up their
relationship. Meredith has an office on Route 236 in Eliot and her email address is
meredithmediates@aol.com.
