Our Next Program:  Club Assembly,  to be held at the Portsmouth Masonic Hall

Last Week's News:

     Guests and Happenings:

         ~ Visiting Rotarians: None

~ Guests:  Michael Rodgers, Roger Raymond, James Golter, Bob Wyman, Guy Hodgdon

The Newsletter editor was on travel last week and no newsletter was issued for that

meeting. Pat & Pam, Chairs of the Membership Committee talked about membership,

handed out questionaires that all club members are asked to fill out and return to them.

They discussed the "Briefly Business" program and the opportunity to introduce business

people to Rotary by giving them a few minutes to introduce their business.

Obie arrived to find "his" seat was not only taken, it was decorated,

including a pair of boxing gloves. Yes those are real gloves, the picture is of

Joyce's father in the ring with them on, this is an aggressive move by the 'bad girls"

into the territory previously claimed by the 'bad boys"

Aug11b

The appearance of the Yankee cap and broom signaled the recent

success of Obie's favorites, Alan and Ellen are anticipating a snappy comeback from Joyce

in the gender turf war

A fire call in mid meeting required Obie and Dan to hot foot it in an unscheduled

scoot, but Obie did take his broom with him, he probably expects to be able to

return with it again this season

      Meeting Program:  .

Michael Rodgers, Superintendant, explained the history and current status of

the Kittery Water District (KWD) along with KWD Directors Roger Raymond,

Bob Wyman, and Jim Golter and tecnical assistant Guy Hodgdon. The KWD is an

organization independant of the Town. It was established in 1907 by the state legislature.

The KWD now obtains water from its reservoirs in York. It has over 5000 customers in

Kittery,York, and Eliot and over 95 miles of pipe. The largest user of the sytem is the

Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and that usage, explained Michael, keeps the overall rates

low. More information is available on the KWD website: www.kitterywater.org
