Our Next Program:  Club Assembly

Last Week's News:

     Guests and Happenings:

~ Visiting Rotarians: Paul Beswick, Rotary Club of Portsmouth

Joe Carlton, Rotary Club of Wells

~ Guests:   Bernie Reim, Guest Speaker

Meeting Program:  .Our guest speaker, Bernie Reim, a realtor in "real life",

is an avid astronomer who both teaches astronomy and writes articles

on astronmy. Bernie is a member of the astronomy club in Kennebunk,

which maintains an observatory off Route 35. Our president Sue had

taken an adult education course given by Bernie. Bernie started off by

letting us know that this was the International Year of Astronomy, being

the 400th anniversary of some of the greatest discoveries by of Galileo.

The goal of the year is to get 20 million new people to look through a telescope.

Bernie brought pictures of a lunar eclipse that he had taken, a comet,

and a partial eclise of the sun that he observed (although he did not personally take

the sun eclipse picture he brought with him). Bernie shared the experiance of

observing a transit of the sun by Venus; talked of the planets currently

seen in the morning sky, and told us of his experiances watching meteor

showers. . He talked of the speed of light and the probability of  other

planets with life. As he came to a close in his talk "Professor Alan"

exclaimed "We have got to get this guy back again!". It was an excellant

             program.

raffle ticket is chosen and they select the one joker hidden in the ever-decreasing deck of

cards. If the joker is not drawn then the pot rolls over to the next week).

Julie won the raffle but drew the 4 of Hearts and lost $71.50

"Briefly Business" ~ Remember you can invite a friend to attend a

meeting to address the club for a minute of two about their business.

It is a great lead-in to getting someone to learn a bit about Rotary

and our club. Let Sue, Julie, or Pam know so they can make sure a

couple of minutes are set aside in the schedule.

Do not forget to regularly check the calendar of our Web Site for long term schedules and the photo Album for updates on our Program pictures and Activity pictures.
