Our Next Program: Membership Workshop

Last Week's News:

     Guests and Happenings:

         ~ Visiting Rotarians: None

~ Guests:  Jackson Yeaton, Nick Dulac and Bob Wiley

Club News:  President Russ updated us on a number of things going on.

  1. The club voted to buy a projector for the club so we have it available for speakers to use when presenting a program.  Jared is doing the research on this and will get back to Russ with his findings.
  2. The PolioPlus Cans will continue to be out on the tables during the meetings.
  3. Crutches for Africa.  He asked all club members that have any unused crutches laying around home to bring them into the club to be sent to Africa.
  4. He passed a sign up sheet around to find out who is interested in being a celebrity waiter.  No date has been picked yet.
  5. He attended a meeting last week to learn about the District Youth Protection Policy that is going into effect shortly.  All Rotarians that will be working with youth on a one-to-one basis will be required to have a background check done.  The cost to the club is $20 per person.  He will have more information for us shortly.

Marie told us that Russ has signed applications for Sue C to apply for the GSE Team Leader and

Elizabeth Harrison as Team Member.  This year's GSE team will be going to Hong Kong.  It is a

medical profession team.  Both Sue and Elizabeth are in the medical profession and work at

Portsmouth Hosptial.  Good Luck to you both.  We hope you are both chosen.

Meeting Program:  Marie introduced our guest speaker today, Nick Dulac our RYLA student.

Nick

Nick is a Junior this year at Traip Academy, plays football and is the Junior Class

               President.

RYLA

.

Nick told us of his experience at RYLA this past June.  He found it to be very interesting and

changed his way of thinking.  He said don't point fingers as three will point back.  Be more

open minded about other people.  (Two excellent things for us all to keep in mind.)  He

explained that he was in a "LEG" of 10 boys and girls, none of whom he knew, along with a

male and female LEG Leaders.  They went through a number of obstacle courses and they

had to work together to help each other.  He said you could see in several of the LEGS that

the leader was always the same but in many of them it changed around.  He was

disappointed that more kids from Traip did not attend.  He said it really changed him.  He

would like to see more go from Traip. Marie encouraged him to help us promote it next year

           and he agreed.

signing

As is our custom, President Russ had Nick sign a book for the Kittery School Libraries as

our thank you for him being our speaker today.

Fun

President Russ and Nick enjoyed today's meeting!

50-50 Raffle:  Pat had the lucky ticket today but unfortunately drew the 9 of diamonds and lost $116.  She then had to face the "stump the chump" questions presented today by Obie.

  1. Those of you who know me fully appreciate that I am a hard core Yankee fan.  Being a Yankee fan means that yo not only cheer for the Yankees to win, but you also cheer for whoever is playing the Red Sox to win.  Did you know that I once cheered for the Red Sox to win a playoff series?
  2. Needing a Christmas tree while in college, I cut down a beautiful spruce tree with a hacksaw one night from the middle of the Route 3, Lowell Connector, 495 rotary.  A friend of mine named Joe rode around the rotary serveal times in his pink Plymouth Duster 340 waiting to pick me and the tree up to make a getaway.
  3. I was an altar boy until Father Auger caught me and another altar boy drinking the wine that was stored in the Transept area and ready for mass.  (I was led astray.)  He proceeded to admit that someday we would make fine priests, but not quite yet.

The wrong answer was number 3 - SURPRISE- which stumped Pat and he won the gift this week.  Better luck next time, Pat!

50% of the pot goes for club administration and 50% goes to the lucky

individual if their raffle ticket is chosen and they select the one joker hidden in

the ever-decreasing deck of cards. If the joker is not drawn then the pot

rolls over to the next week).
