The Rotary Club of Kittery International Service

Foundation Funding

We provide matching Funds and Individual donations to the Foundation supporting Rotary projects locally, in the District, and internationally. Members are encouraged to consider donating $100 a year to the Rotary Foundation which provides Grants for both local and international projects supporting health, education, and welfare. One Hundred percent of the money given to the Foundation is used for projects. One half of the money donated by the clubs to the Annual Programs Fund of the Rotary Foundation goes into a world fund to be used for international projects and the other half goes back to the districts for use in their local and international community projects.

The Club also sets aside money in the annual budget to be used as matching funds to club members donations. Rotary International upon request presents a Paul Harris Fellow for each $1,000 dollars donated to the Rotary Foundation. (read more about the Foundation elsewhere on our website)

Since the Rotary Club of Kittery was founded in October 1987, the club and its members have donated over $84,000 to the Foundation. The Club has had 59 Paul Harris Fellows awarded, and ten are multiple Paul Harris Fellows. In 2008, we were the number 2 club in our District of 41 clubs in per capita annual giving support to the Rotary Foundation. This is not the first time that the Rotary Club of Kittery has received this distinction in District 7780.

In 2007-2008, we gave in goods and funding over $6,200 to Regional and International projects.

Various Projects over the years

  • Sent a used fire engine to Honduras
  • Donation towards a Matching Grant by the Brunswick Coastal Club for a portable X-Ray machine, St. Mary’s Hospital, Marionhill, South Africa
  • Sent school supplies to Africa
  • Donations to Rotaplast (surgery for cleft palates performed by teams traveling to Central America)
  • A Matching Grant to do a food program for street children in the Philippines
  • Funding an Emergency shelter box to be used in programs of Rotarians responding to international disasters around the world.

Guatemala Literacy ProjectIn 2007, we donated funds to buy four school books each for a classroom of 17 children.

Iraqi ChildrenIn 2008, we gave blankets and money for the care of Iraqi Children receiving medical treatment.

Polio Eradication - The club raises money to support Rotary International’s goal to eradicate polio in the world, now in what is hoped will be the final three year challenge. We are committed to contributing at least $1000 in each of the next three years.

We are currently working on an international project to provide support to villages in Africa.
